Since ST is smart, digital camcorder to pc question inside

I got the camera below as a gift. My labtop is a bit old and doesn't have a DVD burner. Is it still possible to just transfer the video file to my computer/ external and watch it on the computer through like a windows media player or do I have to burn to a dvd to watch? I read the description and the info and reviews I could find, and got a bit confused.
