Sucker Punch: D+ (mild spoilers, especially soundtrack)

I earnestly tried to like Sucker Punch knowing it was going to be a tough battle. While 300 had hot men, it was bare bones in the plot department. And while Watchmen had a really interesting character that bared all, it was blue, and there was that wild sex scene that still gives me the creeps. The point is, by now we all know if we�re going to a Zack Snyder flick, he�s going to blow you away with stunning visuals, but skip out on making you breakfast the next morning. Sucker Punch is no exception.
Whereas Inception proved that a dream within a dream when paired with compelling story lines and character can be completely enthralling, a fantasy within a fantasy featuring cast offs from Burlesque is just fucking stupid. Almost instantly you�re wrapped up in yet another misogynists world where the ladies are threatened at every turn. Not only by the big bad greaser stereotype villain, but by each wardrobe change.
Yes, the movie gives you that promised cool factor with the girls battling cyborgs and dragons, but these sequences are so predictable and even repeat in the same manner multiple times, it loses its appeal quite quickly. Additionally, because the studio needed the PG-13, it�s never been more obvious where they carefully selected cuts in order to be able to put out an �unrated� version on DVD.
In the end, while I don�t terribly mind watching scantly girls kick ass that much (they aren�t nearly as revealing as the men in 300 thankfully), I honestly don�t think there�s a point to Sucker Punch other than giving hundreds of graphics people employment. And if all they�re going to do is just produce really amazing cut scenes not unlike what you�d see in a modern day video game, I�d rather them help Blizzard get to work finishing Diablo 3.
That all being said, there are one saving grace to this disaster failure in representing gurl power: The soundtrack is outstanding. Variations of �Where is My Mind� by The Pixies, �White Rabbit� by Jefferson Airplane, and oh my freaking god what a mash up of �I Want it All� with �We Will Rock You� by Armageddon and Queen. Alas, even this has a downside, because no matter what great songs you heard, you�ll be left with a Bjork ear worm the rest of the day.
