As he said, even if those three pointers had been twos, VCU still would have been up five. Their offense was giving them better looks at the basket while their defense had Kansas out of sorts all day. It wasn't that Kansas was missing open looks; it's that they were having to take lower percentage shots than normal. That's a tribute to Shaka calling the right defense throughout the game. He went smaller when all logic and even common sense would say to play bigger against a bigger team. They ceded rebounds in order to force Kansas out to the perimeter. I doubt they'd taken 22 threes in any game this year prior to this.
