For a programmer, who's in that stuff frequently, it's pretty easy to disable the spool. And when that happens, everything could potentially disappear.

Enable the spool again, and your device table comes back.

Considering you're having other issues, this probably isn't the case...but I figured I'd throw it out there, just in case.
