Oh, there was also something else I couldn't recognize

It was a firm meat that was gray and smooth and about the size and shape of a ping pong ball (or maybe sausage). It was gray, but the flavor wasn't strong. It looked almost exactly like sliced italian sausage, minus the flecks of spice...
