It's like you're arguing something other than what I said just to prove to yourself (or everyone else) just how right you are.

I didn't say that personal abstention was required during Lent. As a matter of fact I even made a post to this effect on the last board!
I did, however, say that personal abstention is not just a "tradition" but an actual Act of Penance (which aren't just performed during Lent!), as your own damn link shows:
"The Code of Canon Law and our bishops remind us of other works and means of doing penance: prayer, ACTS OF SELF DENIAL..." [emphasis added].
And with that I'm done. Enjoy being right. Even when you aren't :)
