and Kennedy couldn't seem to grasp the idea that nominally autonomous actors within a cultural paradigm will tend to make decisions consistent with the ideals of that paradigm. He asked, to wit, how can the company be held responsible if the individual managers are given full autonomy in hiring and pay decisions?
