His point is that the same people who backed all of Bush's actions and challenged the patriotism of anyone who dissented are now taking the exact opposite positions merely because of who is President. He therefore called them out on their own words. He does in the end slip into his clear support for Obama and seems to take on a somewhat similar tone (which I agree is also hypocritical), but the vast majority of this is calling out the Republicans for their hypocrisy on this subject.
Putting all that aside, I do agree with your last paragraph though.
