LIR: Dismissing Devo as a "novelty" is not fair.

Their style is novel, I guess, and the song "Whip It" is approached by many as a novelty. But any band that helps to define a genre (in this case 80's new wave) is more than a mere novelty. And as I suggested yesterday, many of today's indie bands just sound like them. They are influential. To call them a novelty implies that they had little impact.

And what is this with talking about Devo in the past tense? ;) They have a new album out and are on tour.
