The fascinating aspect of the flying ability is that walls don't matter any more.

The way I have always played videogames is as a tank who absorbs lots of damage. Armor lock makes the most sense for me and our whole group understands its value because of playing against Will Hunting, sticky grenade fetishist. I do think we need to work on mixing things up, though. For example, running is fantastic for people with shotguns and swords. Flying with swords is also lethal, although armor lock can counter it well. And we're seeing when we play opponents who know how to use invisibility just how much chaos it creates. This may be the way for us to improve is for you and I to start messing with other armor abilities.
