I wonder what stay-at-home wives do all day as much as I wonder what retirees do all day.

If they're a mom then that fills in a lot.
But if you're just married and don't have a side job or anything? There's only so much you can clean...
(My aunt is a childless stay-at-home wife and does nothing but clean, cook, and nap all day. When I stay with them it's like having my own servant. This can't be normal)

my father and his wife have been retired for 15 years. They are crazy busy, are never bored and rarely , if ever watches tv during the day. -- nm

Read lots of books, video games. What do you do in your non-working hours?

If I were stay-at-home, without kids, I'd be reading a lot of books and playing a lot of video games. (nm)

1) there are stay-at-home dads too. 2) how old can the kids be, do we think, before that's not a valid excuse?

I'd find it weird if my hypothetical wife never did anything, but I wouldn't mind if she didn't work (assuming it's not causing financial hardship). -- nm

I agree. If you don't need it, don't want it, and can make it work, more power to you. (nm)

That's what I think too. Plenty of people out there need jobs, no reason for me to take one I don't need. I'd be gardening, doing dog training, etc. -- nm
