I think Apple does a great job of making people believe their product is simply the best. Android phones caught up because they were priced better and people thought they were "close enough" to the iphone that they were willing to make the switch. For a product like this it either has to do something spectacularly more than the ipad can do or people will just think it's a copycat that likely won't be quite as good.
