I did leave out one of the reasons I thought he made a mistake. He was getting some, albeit very little, resistance. Grant didn't like the decision, but didn't fight it. If Grant were to flip (though given the promo we can probably rule that out now), that would probably be the impetus for it.
Zapatera's idol was flushed anyway. Had they gone with Matt's plan of voting out Steve they still flush it out and have a (pretty strong) 7-4 advantage. Now they have a 6-5 advantage with at least one person unpredictable and also pretty disliked by the rest of their group.
I think painting Matt as wishy-washy is a bit off. He was firmly with his group and voted out under pretense of being too friendly with the other tribe, but in reality because he was too close to a member of his tribe. So he thought about switching, and spent his time at RI trying to decide who to side with. He was presented with a good offer, considered it, and decided that it might be the best move but not the right move (for him). He was then given a great offer, and still ultimately remained loyal to his former tribe and his word. Sure he gave it consideration, but everyone out there should be giving every move consideration. And he still isn't out. If he were, I'd like the move a lot more.
I think I still like Matt to win challenges against most of the people still in the game. Rob and Grant are probably his toughest competition, and both should be around for a bit.
Their numbers aren't that strong, and I could see Rob never using the idol. Either never needing to or being blindsided while he still has it. And if people do flip, I think Matt has one of the best chances to beat Rob at RI.
Plus, if Matt comes back again, he could easily get himself to the end by being a swing vote. And I can see him winning based on winning so many head's up win or go home challenges.
