If this is the same proposal as what they said earlier this week, Obama and the Democrats have basically already said they won't go for it. -- nm

If they do turn it down though it's awfully hard for them to not get the blame for the shutdown. -- nm

Both sides have been finger pointing for weeks now. This wouldn't change all that much. -- nm

could be spun either way really, one could just as easily argue that this is just another example of the GOP bargaining in bad faith

Ultimately I think anyone hoping for a shutdown because they're sure the other side will get blamed is deluding themselves. -- nm

The article has already been updated, with Reid saying there is broad agreement on spending, but the Reps want to rewrite the Clean Air Act and ban

I don't know about that. Prior to the 95/96 shutdowns Clinton rejected similar CR measures; didn't hurt him much. -- nm

I'd say it's much more of a strategic move. "We gave them a bill to go one more week and make sure the military's funded" would play awfully well during a shutdown. -- nm

Pretty much the sticking point right now is the BS riders (abortion, the environment, etc.). It's not about the deficit at all for many of these

He's pretty much told the House GOP that he's pursuing another extension in negotiations...he knows it's political suicide when 800k people get sent
