and furthermore ... some of his works, when put into film, suddenly become campy and farsicle...

I had problems, for example, with the television mini series treatment of The Stand... some of it just came over as over the top silliness.
sort of the same thing with The Langoliers. And Tommyknockers. Just didn't seem to have the same feel in movie version.
On the plus side ... Misery ended up being a very good movie adaptation IMHO, but then we're taking Kathy Bates and James Caan ... not to detract from the story, but Caan did very well in his performance there.
but I agree... often, his shorter stuff turns out to become better film material than the longer prose works.
