I find the narrative that he allowed himself as the 3rd guy in the Administration to be played like a puppet to be more compelling.

you want him now to remember, as SecDef to do right by the soldiers after 6 years ago, as the guy who's job was to avoid war, he let himself be lied to and basically signed thousands of death certificates by standing in the UN and condemning Saddam?
He got used and abused and thousands of the guys you'd now have him do right by got killed.
It's not profiles in courage or redemption worthy.
