I do think he's being used as a life preserver by his tribemates. They plan to carry him as far as possible then turn on him once the other tribe is gone. That's the genius part of him having an idol nobody knows about. He is several steps ahead of them as he also teaches a class of Survivor for Dummies.

What he's done here is the stuff of myth and legend. You'll notice nobody is making that nonsense claim that he's not one of the best ever now. Why? It would fail the laugh test...always did.
