Something I love about the Dickie Bennett character is just how much his life has been identified by Raylan Givens. The limp is because of his. The lack of respect his mother has for him is because she knows she didn't raise a Raylan Givens. And his brother/best friend has been killed by Raylan Givens.

This is the blueprint example for how you give a villain justification for his actions.
