My wife just called me with an update on the hybrid battery we had to replace on the Prius a few weeks back. Toyota responded to our letter.

For those that don't know, just about 5 yrs to the day after she bought the Prius, the hybrid battery failed and we had to replace it to the tune of $3400. She had a 7yr/100,000 mile warranty in case of something like this but her car was at 118,000. We were not happy to say the least. All fuel savings realized were shot to hell.

She sent a letter to Toyota and today she was informed they will reimburse us 25% of the cost ($850) plus rebate us $500 for future repairs when we send in the receipt (oil, tires whatever). So, $1350 back to us for writing a letter.

Better than nothing but not better than having to shell out that money in the first place.

So that's that.
