Yes but it depends on what you are doing. 300 is baseline. 600 is if you want to make it larger while not loosing resolution

On screen, not much until you try to blow up the dimensions. Printing at high quality will suffer with lower dpi. File size is larger at higher dpi. -- nm

depends whether you want to print them. higher DPI looks better. If they're just for the web, you want lower dpi for smaller file size. -- nm
