I bought a Flip Ultra and an "underwater case: waterproof up to 30 feet" for snorkeling purposes on my Hawaii trip. (long story inside)

About 20 minutes into my first snorkel, it became apparent that my case was not waterproof in 10 feet of water. The first thing I noticed is that my camera was off. (inner monologue: "stupid auto-off function! I'm trying to video here!"). But I soon noticed that water was seeping into my case. Not good.

I carried my camera (in case) above water while swimming directly to shore. Of course, I immediately removed the batteries and opened the case.

Later I wiped all exterior portions with a damp cloth. After 48 hours of air "drying" (It's extremely humid in Hilo) I tried to fire it up again. No dice. Not only may I have lost a $130 video camera, I couldn't even get the videos off the camera, because there is no removable memory! You need the camera on to download videos.

Later, it occurred to me that perhaps the batteries were fried/drained by the saltwater exposure. So, tonight, I popped in some new batteries, and bam! We're in business.

The sad part is that I didn't have the use of this camera for my two best snorkeling days on the Kona side.
