Ignatieff isn't trusted, seems like a stuffy intellectual to a lot of people. Think about the 2004 election when there were a lot of people who hated Bush but couldn't bring themselves to vote for Kerry.

There's a collective folk wisdom that Canadians will vote for who seems like the most competent bastard. That explains Harper.
