It just seemed odd (to me) for Amazon to use it to describe where its servers are.

N. California I get (huge state from north to south), or even S. Florida, especially in the event of hurricanes. I would think 'Virginia' would suffice.

Responses:
The servers are in Reston, as far as I know. Maybe they want to show that it's near a big city as opposed to in the sticks.
