He's likely to stay confused for several days after anesthesia.

Some people don't react well to it. After every surgery I've had, I've woken up in the recovery room having horrible nightmares. One time, they actually restrained me for a few minutes until I was totally awake. Then, after I'd drift off to sleep again, every time I'd wake up I'd be totally confused about where I was and why. There was another time that I had the pulse oximetry thing on my finger. Every time my oxygen level would drop belox 92% an alarm would go off. It kept waking me up. Finally it woke me once too often and I just flung it across the room. My nurses were not pleased.

He'll get better. :)
