If you could pick up and move anywhere in the country, what places would be on top of your list?
Wife and I are strongly considering leaving Atlanta over the next 2-4 years.
Requirements:
Most super large cities are out (Chicago, NYC)
Strong teachers' unions are a plus.
We have a teacher & engineer's salary, so super high cost of living is out. (No California)
Florida is out.
We're both more "urban" than rural people. We like the hustle & bustle of a city. We don't mind using transit to commute to work. We don't want to be out in the middle of nowhere.
Currently no kids, and there is a good chance there won't be any at all... so school quality while important for resale is not a deal breaker.
Places on my short list:
Oregon
Colorado
North Carolina (research triangle area)

Of those three, I lean RTP, because I like the climate and I prefer East Coast because most of my family is there.

I would plug KC, but I doubt it could hang with those areas. -- nm

(Florida is out?) Of those three, I've lived in Colorado, and can tell you it's a nice place to live - except the winters.

I'm pretty happy in Silicon Valley. Have lived in lots of places, definitely prefer it here.
