I'm sure most of you know my Relay story, but for those of you not on my email list, please read:

This coming weekend, April 30-May 1, I will again be spending 18 hours at the Bartram Trail field showing my commitment to fighting this disease that just over 10 years ago, changed my outlook on life.

Of course, I had heard of Cancer before then, but I hadnt really known anyone with the disease. Then, family members started dying. My Pop Pop, my uncle and my aunt all within a span of less than two years were taken from us because of that word: Cancer.

Ill admit it, I was scared. I was faced with my own mortality. I didnt know much about the disease, all I knew was that it was bad - there is no good Cancer. As a father, I dont want to come home from the doctors and have my daughters or my wife hear me say "those" words, and I would rather my children to grow up in a world not ever having to worry about Cancer. I didnt know what I could do. Cancer sucks.

My Uncle Steve and his family had been doing something called Relay For Life that benefited the American Cancer Society up in Maryland, so we checked to see if there was an event here locally. The Relay For Life of Bartram Trail had just had their inaugural event, and we had just missed it. However, the next year, we started a family team, raised thousands of dollars for Cancer research and prevention, and had a GREAT time. Since then, weve participated every year. Ive even gotten more involved and have been part of the Event Committee for the last nine years in some capacity. This is an event that we can do something together to help fight Cancer. Because Cancer sucks.

At Relay For Life we celebrate loved ones who have won their battle against cancer, remember those who are no longer with us, and fight back against this disease that touches so many. Thankfully, others in our family have survived. Mom Mom is a survivor, as is Rich and so is Andy. We celebrate them every year, and continue to remember those we lost. I am determined to make a difference, for me, my family and for you, and I hope you will join me again this year.

Please, support me in my efforts by using the link below to visit my personal web page and make a donation. Every dollar raised brings us one dollar closer to a cure, plus helps to support programs in our community that helps those fighting the disease.

Thank you so much for your support. If you feel you can't donate, I completely understand, but PLEASE pass this along to anyone else that you feel might. Together, we ARE saving lives and creating a world with more birthdays!
