Raleigh/RTP is definitely a great mix of urban yet rural. Good cost of living, low taxes, lots to offer. I live 15 minutes from downtown. There's a reason so many from the north are moving here.

But...look closely into your needs on the teacher front. Wake County (where sycor and I live) is in a bit of disarray on the public school front right now due to diversity and busing issues (sounds like the 60s but it isn't).

Oregon and Colorado are nice too I am sure. What kind of weather do you like?
