Heh. I think I know how this happened. It's an old book. We had a unified card catalog. The first word of the title was the same as the subject

heading (gilding). Its title card would have been with the subject cards anyway, so they never did a subject heading. Then it was reconned, and still not given a subject heading.
So I asked if they could please add a subject heading field to the record, and the answer was no, people can find it doing keyword searching. Well, not if they're doing a subject search, idiots.
This is our cataloger's email : "My goal is to eliminate unnecessary edits and get new materials out faster. We�re going to be reviewing areas of the catalog record where certain types of information are already present and additional editing would not enhance the record�s findability in the catalog.
"I don�t want to set a precedent by changing this older catalog record and confusing my staff by creating a double standard for editing catalog records."
