It definitely works with many. That was the thing I hated about the book. As awful as it makes people sound, it felt very real.

People get hung up on the boas, but that's just the talking piece. A way of standing out from the crowd. (Called Peacocking in the book.)
Well hell, think of how much fun we have when out for bachelor or bachelorette parties as compared to "normal" nights at the bar. Why is that? Because most often, we're engaging others far more frequently and openly than we do otherwise, and even more so, there's usually a high degree of sexual tension involved in the "games".
