Katniss spends the majority of the book trying to be as far away from the other tributes as possible, for clear strategic reasons. The only other Tribute she spends any time with was not the most obvious candidate to get sponsorships anyway (as they explain that the sponsors tend to favor the favorites). That aspect never really bothered me. There's a lot of the Games that took place far away from our narrator that we never see.
