What happened to network radio has been studied extensively and is being repeated exactly for network TV.

They may come to it kicking and screaming. Deep pockets and rabid lobbyists will certainly postpone the inevitable. But networks will eventually die. Local stations will become disaffiliated from their corporate overlords. Corporations will refocus on niche programming, first on their cable channels, eventually transitioning to online video aggregated "channels".
