If the movies are playing in the same cineplex, and if the kid is trustworthy and responsible enough, he could go to TDESS while the rest saw MARLY.

And, I suppose, if the theater is in a "safe neighborhood," too. My mom used to let my brother and I see movies in a separate theater all the time when I was 12 and 13, but then again, that was a different time back in the day.
