If you can somehow standardize the amount of shaking, that would be great.

In lieu of that, describe very specifically what you did.
e.g., "Cans were lined up at the test site and not moved for 24 hours prior to testing. Each can was shaken 5 times vigorously over a one foot path. Overflow was collected in a 12" cake pan." etc.
