Place this under "The Best Laid Plans" file: AMAZON loss-leader promotion of selling downloads of LADY GAGA's "Born This Way" album for just 99 cents. CNN.COM reports that the demand was so high that it crashed their system, delaying the full downloads of the album which left consumers with just a portion of the entire album after purchase.
AMAZON then released the following statement: "AMAZON is experiencing high volume and downloads are delayed. If customers order today, they will get the full LADY GAGA, 'Born This Way' album for $0.99. Thanks for your patience."
Unfortunately, more than a few purchasers didn't take too kindly to the delay, by assigning the album one-star ratings and complaining more about AMAZON's slow service than the album itself. Some vented their disappointment by talking up iTUNES.
This snafu also dampened AMAZON promotion of its new Cloud Player service, which was hyped in the promotional language of the deal.
