Romantic comedies are for the most part predictable, so they rely on the strength of the leads.

1. guy is on the outside of girl's life, looking in
2. guy slowly works his way into girl's life
3. just as things start to get steamy, or just after, something gets fucked up or misunderstood and they get mad at each other and split for a while
4. big speech, OMGiloveu
5. roll credits
This is lpainful if the leads aren't any good.
