Car got towed at the airport after I dropped off clients for their vacation. Limousine services require a license to operate in the airport, but I'm not a limousine service. I drive clients in their own cars. This client didn't want me driving their Mercedes while they were on vacation, so I offered to drop them off at the airport. They paid me for 3 hours of my time - same as if I was driving their car. Cop didn't see it that way and, technically, I was in violation.... but so would my Dad if he dropped me off at the airport and I paid him for it (according to the cop, it's black and white. I just caught their attention because I was wearing a suit and they were sitting in the back seat). It's a misdemeanor too, so I was booked, photographed and fingerprinted on the sidewalk after the car was towed.
However!! I can have all the charges dismissed if I pay a fee of $750 plus the tow and impound fees to the Public Utilities Commission tomorrow.
Fucking racket. The law was meant for "wildcat" operators running in and out of the airport 5 or 6 times a day and advertising as such. I don't advertise, I'm not operating an airport service, I was just doing a favor for my private client.
