Assuming you are made president, have an all-hands meeting ASAP. Stress what a wonderful guy the outgoing president was, and how hard-working. With him leaving, *everyone* is going to have to pick up some of the slack.
It might help if you have some definite ideas on what you could re-assign to whom.
