Yeah, if you're trying to address battery life via rooting, for example, there's less intensive ways to do it.

For example, on my old Android phone that I handed down to SheFox, we fixed the battery issues by turning off the background data updates for GMail. So it only refreshes her inbox when she tells it to, not every 30 seconds all day long. That more than doubled her battery life.
I'll leave rooting for the experts.
