This one might be a localized one, but: "If he deserves it, you are allowed to stand back for a few minutes while a buddy loses a fight."

Two subsections:
1) Once he's taken "a few licks to teach a lesson" it is time to step in.
2) If more than one other guy is throwing punches, no matter how deserving your buddy was, someone needs to take a dance partner and make it a fair fight again.
(The second one resulted in the one and only time I was ever tossed from a bar.)
