I wouldn't call it revolutionary but it does follow a natural progression for them and integrates their products well

You essentially have a Nintendo tablet now that can play a wide range of their past collection of games for all their portable platforms as well as serve as a controller for their current batch of games. You still have the WiiMote for all motion games and I guarantee you that it isn't too unlikely they could release a simple Kinect-style add-on to this system in the future if desired.

It's smart for them but in no way a revolution in gaming but it does target their user base (casual + the DS/DSi/3DS crowd)
