Yes, there are spukies in Boston - Dorchester Lower Mills, to be exact.

When I first moved to MA (Springfield) I was introduced to grinders. When I moved to Boston they were subs. But then I moved to Lower Mills and was introduced to the spukie. I was told it's a Connecticut word, the original owner of the shop being from there. The present owners are Greek and they make great subs (that's what *I* call them) and the best pizza (the Spukies Special). I miss that pizza every time I have pizza here. When I left Boston they had just opened a store in Quincy.
Interestingly, there's a grinder store here, a couple towns away. One day I'll stop in to check it out. I'm guessing the owners are (or were) from New England).
