I liked it at first but hated it by the end. I missed out on seeing so much of the game.

It's necessary if you're going to complete the game and find all the clues/hidden things. It was a cool addition but I felt like you had to use it all the time or you would miss things hidden around the asylum.
It was less necessary or limited a bit I would have liked it more.
