If they dropped the price $100, I'd probably buy one today. -- nm

sure. but it's exactly that poor price point that was one of the primary manifestations of their mismanagement this cycle....

Their mismanagement also hurts them song long-term going into the next generation since a PS won't be the first choice of many people like it had been

They need to crank out God of War 3 with a sexy bundle and a sweet price cut, and soon. -- nm

That with FF13 would've made me strongly consider it.

I don't think Sony can afford to do that. As a company, they need to decrease their losses, not add to them. -- nm

But now that they've cut production costs to where they're just about breaking even, they need to sell the units to sell the software. -- (link)

Imo, Isuppli is a joke. That's the same site that showed both the XBox360 and Wii having negative sales in 2011 and 2012.

My problem is even if they come down to the $299 price point, that's too much.

$299 for an 80GB PS3 would sell that thing like mad. -- nm

Eh. At this point the brand name damage has been done. It needs a price cut, sure, but that won't magically start selling it better. -- nm

Sure it would. Just like the time they cut the price in the summer(?) last year. -- nm

Honestly, I think if the hardware costs had come down that much, they would have cut the price in November.

totally disagree. these are different quarters, which makes it a different proposition. they had promised shareholders a lot....
-

But wouldn't the net effect for the quarter be that Sony has lost more money than the previous quarter?

it's a bad choice either way. but they simply can't continue to lose market share in the console space imo. that's the real bottom line...
