But wouldn't the net effect for the quarter be that Sony has lost more money than the previous quarter?

If they cut the price $50 or $100, now they're losing $50 to $100 more per console sold. Now, they get into a weird area where the more consoles they sell, the less money they make.
Sony really wouldn't see any software increase from those extra consoles for another quarter or two. I just don't see how a company in corporate upheaval would hurt their bottom line like that.
But I fully admit you know more about the economy, and corporate behavior than me.
