FWIW I listened to quite a bit of the trial and I remember thinking at the time that I did not think acquital was a shocking or ridiculous outcome.

Everyone from the cops through the prosecutors bungled that case, and while I feel confident that he is, in fact, guilty, it became somewhat of a referendum on what kind of care should be taken in proving guilt. How much mishandling of evidence is ok? It was brilliantly played by the defense. I know that's not how the outcome should have worked, but it did because of the incompetence on the other side.
