Sorkin lost a lot imo when he torched Dubya (Ritchie in S3/4) instead of actually having a legitimate election between two solid characters.

they had the problem in S7 of Alda being too strong so they needed to have that Nuke Issue, but that's still a thousand miles better than the S3 "Crime, boy, I don't know." That was terrible and miles below standard West Wing to that point.
