It was really only the last episode.

They had gotten on a flight from, I believe Puerto Rico, to the last destination, and the other two teams were still well behind. This would have meant they had a free run to the finish. Another team showed up at the airport while the plane was still at the gate, but the doors had been closed. Suddenly, they were let on. The producers swear up and down it was the pilot's decision, but it's awfully convenient. I don't believe it was an anti-Rob&Amber sentiment exactly as much as it was "we need a competition on the last leg".
