I don't mind Columbus at all. He did some great necessary work that set the stage for the other directors.

He established a lot of looks (Hogwarts, the train, etc etc) that saves directors time so that they can focus on a lot of other things and use a visual shorthand for some scenes
He did create a cast that stands the test of time in these movies
He really deserves a bit more credit than I think he gets
