My niece's cat has a weird injury along those lines.

The lil dude couldn't use the litter box for multiple days. She took it to the vet and they determined it had a crystallized substance in its bowels. The poor cat hadn't had a bowel movement in 8 days. The moment they were done with the surgery, the vet said it's the most relieved they've ever seen a cat.
