Agreed, but it's funny that it's precisely for these kinds of reasons that if it were up to me we would never stay with my in-laws.

I just don't like the pressure of having to conform to how they do things and trying to find the boundaries of what is "making myself at home" in an appropriate way and what goes to far. Note: I've never had any issues when I've stayed with them (and we're staying there this weekend), but I feel excessively deferential while I'm there. I would much prefer to stay at a hotel, but my wife likes to stay with them.
